Hi! Welcome to the Choosing Africa website! Here is a little information about me.
Prior to my African adventures, I was the administrator of a research ethics board for the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. When our children were about to leave the nest, Lou (my wonderful husband) and I decided to take a study visit to West Africa. Wow! What a life-changing experience that was! We took two more trips...and we were hooked.
We lived and taught in the southern African country of Namibia for six years. That adventure is what you will read about in Choosing Africa.
Lou and I returned to the USA in 2003. We continue to stay in touch with some of our special African friends whom you will meet in Choosing Africa. My nonfiction has appeared in magazines, literary journals, and anthologies (see below for links to some of these).

If I have piqued your interest, here are a few places you can read some other pieces I have written about those Africa adventures.
• Learn about "The Value of One Ox" in The Apalachee Review
• Are you thinking about teaching English in Africa? Learn some valuable tips from my article in Transitions Abroad
• To learn what happens when rain comes to the arid country of Namibia, read "The Too Much Rainy Season" in The Raleigh Quarterly
My work has also appeared in The Georgetown Review, The Rambler, The Women's Independent Press, Chicken Soup for the Shopper's Soul, and the anthology, A Matter of Choice (Seal Press).
